QubeGPT — an AI assistant working locally on Omani open data

QubeGPT is a generative AI assistant developed by AuraQubit, a start-up incubated at the Arab Open University in the Sultanate of Oman. The assistant is designed to run entirely within the institution’s servers, without the need to connect to the internet or send any data abroad. In this way, Omani data remains in Oman, understood in its local language and context.

QubeGPT is based on Agentic AI. It does not merely answer questions; it understands the request, plans the steps required to complete it, searches the available sources, and then formulates the response in clear Arabic while citing the official source. This makes it more like a task-completing assistant at your disposal—not just a conversational tool.

The assistant was developed to serve two domains:

Law and legislation: QubeGPT uses open legal data to answer inquiries accurately and always refers to the official source instead of guessing, turning hours of research into minutes.

Tourism: It leverages open-sector data to provide analyses and answers that support decision-makers and help promote Omani destinations.

Its value lies in being a fully local solution that preserves data confidentiality by hosting it on the institution’s servers in the Sultanate of Oman, and at a cost affordable to government bodies and private-sector institutions. It is still in the technical testing stage to ensure its quality and stability before scaling up, contributing to building national capabilities in AI in line with the knowledge economy targets of Oman Vision 2040.

QubeGPT benefited from open data published on the National Open Data Portal, where the data was taken from multiple entities, including:

Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs: the “Lawyers Data” dataset (numbers of registered lawyers, and civil law offices and law firms).

Ministry of Heritage and Tourism:

Arrivals through all entry points (2019 – September 2025). Visitors to the Al Maha Wildlife Sanctuary (2016 – December 2025). Visitors to forts and castles in Dhofar Governorate. Numbers of hospitality establishments by classification (2011 – 2025). In case of any inquiries, please feel free to contact us at 77651003.
