Introduction

Overview
Welcome to Oman's National Open Data Portal, Your Gateway to In-depth Dataset Insights.

The portal provides access to various datasets from all governmental entities within Oman. This guide is intended to help you navigate and use the portal features effectively.

These features include:

  1. Sign Up for NOPD
    Create your account quickly and easily to access all features of the portal.
  2. View and Download Data in Various Formats
    Access public datasets and download them in formats like CSV, XSLX, or JSON.
  3. Search, Filter, Save, and Download Data
    Find the data you need, narrow your results with filters, save your favorites, and download them for your projects.
  4. Access Data Using APIs
    Developers can use APIs to retrieve data directly into their applications.
  5. Design Custom Visuals
    Create charts, graphs, and other visualizations directly within the portal.
  6. Request New Data
    If you can't find what you need, submit a request for specific datasets.
  7. Share How You’re Using Data
    Tell us about your projects and how you're using the data to make an impact.
  8. Engage with the Community
    Rate datasets and leave comments to share your feedback and help others.
  9. View the Status of Your Dataset Requests, Use Case Submissions, and Comments
    You can track the status of your dataset requests, use case submissions, and comments, whether they are approved or rejected.

Accessing the Portal

Open your browser (Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, etc.) and access the National Open Data Portal through the following link.
You can explore the portal and datasets without creating an account.

Sign-up Guide

  1. Click the “Login” button on the top right corner of the Homepage.

  5. Fill out the registration form:
    • Email
    • Password
    • Confirm password
    • Your Full Name
    Then click "Sign Up".

  7. Verify your Email Address to activate your account:
    • Go back to your mailbox and verify your email address.

How to Login

  1. Click on the “Login” button in the top right corner of the Homepage.

  3. Write your registered email and password.
  4. Click “Login”.

  6. If the input credentials are wrong, you will receive an error message, and you are required to correct your login credentials.

  8. If you forgot your password, click on “Forgot Password”.

  10. Enter your email that you used to sign up.
  11. Go back to your mailbox and update your password.

Explore Datasets

  1. Click on "Datasets" in the top menu.

  3. Type keywords in the search bar, such as "hospital" or "education."

  5. Relevant datasets will instantly appear based on your search.

  7. If no datasets appear, it means there are no datasets that match the entered keyword.

How to Apply Filters to Your Search

  1. From the dataset page.
  2. Navigate to the left side and apply the desired filters. You can set filters by:
    • Publishers
    • Dataset Themes
    • File Formats
    • Tags used in the datasets
    • Last Updated
    • Rating

  4. To reset applied filters, simply click on the “Reset All” button.

How to Download Datasets

• You can download datasets in bulk by file type or by version.
• To download a dataset, navigate to the dataset page and select the desired dataset.

  1. To download all the files within the dataset, click “Download All”.
  2. Or you can download a specific file from the dataset by clicking “Download” next to that file.

  4. To download a version of a specific file, click “Versions” and then click “Download”.

Visualize Data

  1. Open the dataset details page.
  2. Click on “Visualization”.
  3. Select a chart type.
  4. Choose the file you want to visualize.
  5. Select the X-axis and Y-axis.
  6. Click on “Export” to save the visual.

Follow the steps below:

  1. Click on “Datasets” at the top menu.

  9. Select the file you want to visualize.
    Note: The dataset must include CSV or XLSX files to represent the data visually.
    • Select the data for the X and Y axes.
    • Give the chart a name, for example, “Chart #1”.

How to Request a Dataset

• To request a dataset, you need to have an account on the portal:
  o If you're new, follow the Sign-up Guide to create an account.
  o Already have an account? Simply follow the How to Login guide using your credentials.

• Follow the steps below to request a dataset:

  1. Navigate to the top menu bar.

  5. Click on “Request Dataset”.

  7. Fill out the Request Form:
    • Insert a title for the requested dataset.
    • Select a “Theme” for the dataset.
    • Select the source of the dataset.
    • Select appropriate “Tags”.
    • Add a description.

  13. A confirmation message will appear, indicating that your request has been successfully submitted for review.

  15. If the form has incomplete sections, it means some required fields still need to be filled out.

How to Submit a Use Case

• To submit a use case, you need to have an account on the portal:
  o If you're new, follow the Sign-up Guide to create an account.
  o Already have an account? Simply follow the How to Login guide.

Follow the steps below to submit a use case:

  1. Navigate to the top menu bar and click on "Use Case" to open the section.

    • Enter a Title: Provide a clear and descriptive title for your use case.
    • Enter Publisher's Name
    • Provide a Link (Optional): Add a URL link with more details if available.
    • Write a Description: Briefly explain the use case, highlighting its purpose, impact, and how the dataset was utilized.
    • Upload an Image or Logo: Add an image or logo that visually represents your use case (e.g., project logo or related graphic).

Share Your Feedback on Datasets

• As a user of the Open Data Portal, you can rate datasets and publishers using a star-based system. Your ratings and feedback will be visible to all other users, helping them assess the quality and relevance of the datasets and publishers.

• Follow the steps below to rate datasets or a publisher:

  1. To rate datasets and publishers, you will need to have a registered account:
    • If you're new, follow the Sign-Up Guide to create an account.
    • If you already have an account, simply log in using your credentials.
  2. Find the dataset or publisher to rate:
    • Use the search bar to locate a specific dataset or publisher.
    • Alternatively, browse datasets by category, theme, or tags.

  4. Access the Rating section:
    • Scroll down to the bottom of the dataset or publisher page.
    • Locate the “Rating” section, usually displayed as stars.

    • Hover your cursor over the stars and select a rating (e.g., 1 to 5 stars).
    • Click on the appropriate star to submit your rating.
    • You will see a confirmation message indicating your rating was submitted successfully.

Comments on Datasets

• As a user of the Open Data Portal, you can write comments on datasets to share your feedback. Your comments will be visible to all other users, helping them understand the quality, relevance, and usefulness of the datasets.

• Follow the steps below to submit a comment:

  1. To comment on datasets, you will need to have a registered account:
    • If you're new, follow the Sign-Up Guide to create an account.
    • If you already have an account, simply log in using your credentials.
  2. Locate the dataset:
    • Use the search bar to find the dataset you want to comment on.
    • Alternatively, browse datasets by category, theme, or tags.

    • On the dataset’s details page, scroll down to locate the “Comments” section.

    • Click on the text box labeled “Add a Comment” or similar.
    • Type your feedback, thoughts, or observations about the dataset.
    • Click on “Add Comment” to submit your feedback.

  8. If your comment is less than 20 characters, an error message will appear prompting you to provide more text.

How to View the Status of Requests

• As a user of the Open Data Portal, you can review the status of your dataset requests, use case submissions, and comments — whether they are pending, approved, or rejected.

• To review your request status, follow the steps below:

  1. You need to have a registered account:
    • If you're new, follow the Sign-Up Guide to create an account.
    • If you already have an account, simply log in using your credentials.
  2. After logging in, go to the top bar menu and click on your profile.

  6. You can view the status of your requests in the requests table, which may show one of the following statuses:
    • Pending
    • Approved
    • Rejected

Submit RequestSend a request for a new dataset.
Submit Use CaseSubmit a request to publish a use case created using a dataset.
Arabic/English IconSwitch the portal language between Arabic and English.

Common System Messages
